Hello and welcome to the first ever review for an android app here. This is a new series I am starting and I hope to give honest reviews for products I come across in my everyday life. The first review is for an app which will help you to monitor the internet speed and usage on your android smart-phone or tablet.
Reviewed App: Internet Speed Meter Lite
As soon as I opened the app for the first time on my tablet, yes I tested this app on a tablet, the app greeted me with a welcome screen which is good as this gives an overall idea about the app and what it will do. Like I expected the welcome screen had a basic descriptions of what the app will do and about the limitations of a trial app. It promised me it will notify me in the status bar if I am connected to a network. The app said it will also display the Internet connection transfer speed atm in the notification bar.
In depth Analysis:
First thing I did was check in the settings of the app to know what features and options it has. To be frank I was not disappointed. It had options to turn of the notification for ever, and option to turn it on always. The default option shows the notification when the Internet is connected. Although I think turning it on always won’t be a good idea as there is no need if the phone is not connected to internet.
It had the common features such as monthly limit, which will make the app show a notification when the specified limit is reached. Also it had the settings for mentioning the starting day of month. The settings menu also had an option to reset the stats. This option was not working when I tried it, might be a small bug which needs fixing.
UPDATE: The author contacted me and told that was a limitation in the lite version.
The interface looks good and does the job as it is promised. Now I have a few suggesting could make the app awesome.
- A graph which will display in the home screen for the usage instead of tabular data. The tabular data could be another view selectable by the user if he/she wants. That way the app interface would be more attractive.
- A more clear image in the about us section from the settings submenu.
I can say the app does the job perfectly except the minor bug. The full version of this app is also priced at reasonable amount which is a good thing.
