Network Monitor Applet for Ubuntu – Gnome

As I was switching to Ubutnu Karmic from Windows7, I tried to find equivalent apps for almost all the tools I was using in Windows 7 for a smooth shifting. Then One thing I missed in Ubuntu was the sidebar panel. Ofcourse you cn use Kubuntu if you want sidebar and very nice look and feel. But for me ubuntu with Gnome was ok.

So I was searching for an applet which will display the network traffic (incoming and outgoing), which was one of my fav in the windows 7 sidebar. After some searching I found one, called Netspeed, which was more simpler than the windows equivalent.

See the Screen Shot.

If you miss the sidebar from 7, then you might give screenlets a look.

If you need a lightweight sidebar that can monitor your system, try conky. http://conky.sourceforge.net/
