Avast Antivirus 5 Released

The newest version of the popular Avast Antivirus is finally available for download. It’s lighter, faster, and more feature-filled than ever, bringing a new behavior shield, heuristics engine, and code emulator to keep you protected at all times.

Apart from its far easier-to-navigate interface, Avast has a few new features that make it hard to turn down. Its new code emulator can emulate a suspicious executable’s code, isolated, for use in its new heuristics engine, designed to detect malware that would otherwise be undetectable with normal definitions—in other words, spotting malware by learning what the code does. If you use the pro version, you also get their new sandboxing feature for even further protection.

Apart from the new features, Avast has also lowered scanning times as well as the resources necessary to scan and update—a common issue with antivirus programs that are always running in the background. If you’re already an Avast lover (and many of you are), you can either wait for the program to update itself in the near future or go download 5.0 straight from Avast. If you’ve tried Avast and turned it down before, it may be worth another look—you may find that its former cons (such as the difficult-to-use GUI and resource use) are now more up to your standards.

Avast Antivirus is a free download, Windows only.

5 Best Antivirus Softwares Compared

Technology is getting improved day by day. The reasons for us to use computers are getting more and more. All this is the good part. Now comes the bad part, Viruses and other Malwares. BlackHats are making hell lot of money just by these malwares. But these malwares use layman’s computers for making this happen. As of now if you just leave your computer online without any firewalls or antivirus softwares, it is said that, it will get infected in just 10 mins.

With the plethora of viruses, bugs, worms and threats invading the desktop these days, antivirus products have become a critical tool for any PC user. Again there are lots of Antivirus softwares for you to choose. Each one is having its own advantages and disadvantages.

And let me tell you at first only. There are Rogue AntiVirus softwares, which may disguise you .

Wikipedia says,

Rogue security software is a form of computer malware that deceives or misleads users into paying for the fake or simulated removal of malware. Rogue security software, in recent years, has become a growing and serious security threat in desktop computing.

So just don’t fall for this.

Now let me come to the Comparison of Top 5 AntiVirus softwares.

Nod32 Antivirus promises you fast, effective and easy-to-use protection. The system wil not slow down a little bit because of NOD32 and yet it is quite powerful. Almost all emerging threats are detectable by NOD32. The database updates are very frequent offering one of the best real time protection even from the latest malwares. The user interface is quite good. The UI very easy to eyes.  It has 2 profiles for both advanced PC users and normal PC users.  But still the user configurable options are less compared to some other Antivirus. For some users this may be a disadvantage. But still I can sya it is good for its simplicity.

Microsoft’s new security program – Microsoft Security Essentials

The Microsoft Malware Protection Center (MMPC) would like to introduce you to Microsoft’s new security program – Microsoft Security Essentials. The MMPC is very excited about this release, which should help us to protect more customers around the world at no cost.

Here’s a note from the Microsoft Security Essentials team:

Microsoft Security Essentials (formerly codenamed “Morro”) is the newest security product from Microsoft that helps protect consumers against viruses, spyware and other malicious software. The program, using the same technology as the Forefront product family, is designed to protect and take the guess work out of you wondering if you are protected or not.

If you’re green, you’re good.

Red or yellow means there is something that needs to be done to keep your PC secure. A single click and the PC is back to the green protected state.

Microsoft Security Essentials is also designed to address cost and other barriers that have prevented many of our customers from running up-to-date security protection on their PCs. Because there are no subscription fees, there is no registration required to collect billing or other personal information.

It also runs quietly in the background scheduling scans when the PC is most likely idle and interrupting the user only when there is an action required to keep their PC secure. It employs practices like active memory swapping and CPU throttling to limit the impact on your PC performance, even on older or less powerful PCs.

This isn’t a security suite product that provides rich PC tuning capabilities or backs up your data. But if what you’re looking for is “install and forget” malware protection and solid quality Microsoft Security Essentials may be just what you’ve been waiting for. Plus, as a user of Microsoft Security Essentials you’ll get support from the MMPC.

We think you’re gonna like what you get with Microsoft Security Essentials. See for yourself and download it now!

Microsoft Security Essentials is available now in 8 languages and 19 markets around the world for genuine Windows PCs.

false Positive from CA

I think this month is the worst for security researchers. AVG,McAfee and now CA, of which CA being the last one who comes up with a false positiv4es. As of all this CA also detects windows system files as some viruses. This is a bad news and for the same reason the users of CA are a little more that upset.

From Thursday onwards the CA users are complaining, after the company’s anti-virus software mistakenly identified a Windows XP systems file as a virus. Also the software is said to be detecting the service pack 3 for Win XP and the files fom the commercial CygWin application.

The CA advisory reads:

“CA Internet Security Suite users should restore affected files from quarantine using the GUI. CA Threat Manager customers should search local hard drives for files with the extension .AVB and manually rename to their original file extension by removing the appended text on the original file name.”

The CA is offering a tool for restoring these effected files through its customer care service.
