How to: Make a password less SSH Login

First  you will have to generate key on local machine.

For that type in the following command in a terminal. Here we are using RSA encryption.

ssh-keygen -t rsa

It will ask you for a password but you can leave it blank.

Note you could also pick -t dsa if you prefer DSA encryption.

Ensure that the remote server has a .ssh directory

Make sure the server your connecting to has a .ssh directory in your home directory. If it doesn’t exist you can run the ssh-keygen command above, and it will create one with the correct permissions.

Copy your local public key to the remote server

If your remote server doesn’t have a file called ~/.ssh/authorized_keys2 then we can create it. If that file already exists, you need to append to it instead of overwriting it, which the command below would do:

scp ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub remote.server.com:.ssh/authorized_keys2

Now ssh to the remote server

Now you can ssh to the remote server without entering your password.

Security

Now keep in mind that if someone need to login to the remote server, all s/he need is the file on your local machine ~/.ssh/id_rsa, so make sure it is secure.

Technology is getting improved day by day. The reasons for us to use computers are getting more and more. All this is the good part. Now comes the bad part, Viruses and other Malwares. BlackHats are making hell lot of money just by these malwares. But these malwares use layman’s computers for making this happen. As of now if you just leave your computer online without any firewalls or antivirus softwares, it is said that, it will get infected in just 10 mins.

Facebook has a New Worm

An Israeli security researcher (Gadi Evron) and AVG researcher (Nick Fitzgerald) are reporting that Facebook has a new worm.

In blog posting Evron said he stumbled across the Facebook attack after he was tricked by a posting of the link on a friend’s Facebook wall.

“This shows that even experts can become complacent and trust systems when they really shouldn’t. It’s a good reminder for me to be more careful with social networks, which for some reason I have grown used to trusting more, without even noticing it happen!”

The picture includes a button and the phrase “Click da’ button, baby!” Once a Facebook user clicks the malicious link they are brought to an attack website landing page which automatically updates and copies the victim’s Facebook wall with the malicious link. It also copies the wall.

Links for Malware removal help

Malware Removal Help Forums

Currently the malwares are being spread by various means. The attackers are using their social engineering skills to make the victim’s computers compromised. The bad fact is that these people have a very high level of social engineering skills.

Also the people who uses internet and computers with the lack of good knowledge about computers and internet makes it easy for the attackers to infect the computer they are using.

“Erin Andrews Nude Video Scandal” this is a hot discussion topics on lots of discussion boards and chat rooms. The black hats also used this to popularize their malwares. There have been lots of websites offering the video for this. But trust me, Almost 80% of these websites were hosting malwares and they tried to infect the people who visited their websites for watching this video.

So what these hackers did was, they just asked the visitor to download a required codecpack/player to play this special kind of video. If the visitor does not have a good computer background s/he will click on it . Then the download prompt will display. Guess what, Now the visitor became the victim because of the malware just now s/he downloaded. This malware can be used by the hacker to gain full or partial control of the victim through the internet. Thus the victims system can be used even as a webserver by the attacker if s/he wanted to.

So first principle not to get infetced is, being aware of these kind of threats. Always “Prevention is better than cure”.

Now you may say, i ‘ll be more careful now-onwards but what if i already got infected?.

Then let me say, there are lots of resources for you. Like theres always been this opposite energy, for all these bad people who tries to fill this world with their malwares, there are Good people who tries to help all those victims of these attackers. They try very hard for keeping this world safe.

Now let me come to the point why i made this post.

There are lots of forums a.k.a. BBS a.k.a. discussion boards which offers to help you for disinfecting/cleaning your systems. And once your system got cleaned they will provide you guidelines for not to get infected again in future.

false Positive from CA

I think this month is the worst for security researchers. AVG,McAfee and now CA, of which CA being the last one who comes up with a false positiv4es. As of all this CA also detects windows system files as some viruses. This is a bad news and for the same reason the users of CA are a little more that upset.

From Thursday onwards the CA users are complaining, after the company’s anti-virus software mistakenly identified a Windows XP systems file as a virus. Also the software is said to be detecting the service pack 3 for Win XP and the files fom the commercial CygWin application.

The CA advisory reads:

“CA Internet Security Suite users should restore affected files from quarantine using the GUI. CA Threat Manager customers should search local hard drives for files with the extension .AVB and manually rename to their original file extension by removing the appended text on the original file name.”

The CA is offering a tool for restoring these effected files through its customer care service.
