2010 may see price cuts for PS3 and Xbox 360

According to what Video game industry analyst Michael Pachter said, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to receive price cuts again this year.

He said,

“The Wii enjoyed a $350 price advantage over the PS3 at launch, and a $150 advantage until September. Now, the gap has narrowed to $100, with the feature-laden PS3 a tempting purchase for prospective console households,” says Pachter.

“The holiday Wii sales boost was primarily attributable to a $50 gift card promotion offered by Wal-Mart; while we expect similar promotions at holiday next year, we expect the other consoles to be lower-priced by then, further eroding the Wii’s competitive price advantage.”

“It appears that piracy in Europe and some substitution of iPod Touch games has impacted DS software sales more than we expected, and we have adjusted our estimates for FY:11 to account for further pressure.”

At last Sony Playstation 3 Hacked – Geohot Releases PS3 exploit to the public

The man behind the iPhone JailBreak has come up with a new HACK. And now its for Sony Playstation 3. Some days earlier he posted a blog entry about the hacking of the playstation. Now today he released the exploit to the public. As of now for a normal person, i think its not easy to use this exploit. But there will be easy to use kits in no time as, homebrew developers will find new ways to run custom code on the PS3.

Geohot Said in his blog,

In the interest of openness, I’ve decided to release the exploit. Hopefully, this will ignite the PS3 scene, and you will organize and figure out how to use this to do practical things, like the iPhone when jailbreaks were first released. I have a life to get back to and can’t keep working on this all day and night.

Modern Warfare 2 killed PlayStation Network for a while

Modern Warfare, the blockbuster game again found a place in the industry news. After selling almost 5 million copies in its first day, now it killed playstation network, at least for a while., server overloads was being the reason.

Says developer Infinity Ward’s Rob Bowling: “It’s a server overload not a bug in the code. They’re working to have servers back up ASAP. MP servers gradually coming back online. Some users may still experience issues. Looks like it was the amount of connections at once that killed PSN.”

Anyway after sometime, the problem was solved.
