Sony PlayStation 3 Slim Comes in September for 300$

Sony’s officially announced their PlayStation 3 Slim that retails for $100 less than the current PlayStation 3 fat, which is also getting a price cut.

The slim will come with a 120GB drive, and will be 32% smaller and 36% lighter than the standard PlayStation 3, as well as using 34% less power. The $300 price will apply to all PlayStation 3s starting tomorrow. The Slim will be available everywhere by the first week of September.

Here are some more details. The 80GB PS3 (current model) will be discounted to $300, whereas the 160GB PS3 will be $400. There will be a new PS3 logo as well as modifications to the official name from PLAYSTATION 3 to PlayStation 3 as to not be shouting all the time.



It’ll also have a BRAVIA Sync feature that’ll allow you to control the PS3′s XMB with your Sony TV remote as long as they’re connected via HDMI. And the TV will automatically turn off the PS3 when the TV goes off.

There’s also a vertical stand retailing for $24 on September 3. Whether or not you can stand it up vertically for long periods of time without the stand is unknown. Sony also says that they’re eliminating the feature of installing other operating systems on the Slim, so no more Linux.

Oh, and there will only be two USB ports.

Sony Launches 2 E-Readers

Sony also comes  up with their brand new e-readers. This will compete with Amazon’s popular Kindle e-book readers in the emerging market for digital books.

The two E-Readers are:

  • Sony Reader Touch Edition
  • Sony Reader Pocket Edition

The Sony Reader Touch Edition sports a 6-inch touchscreen, and has a price tag of $299 just like Amazon’s latest Kindle. The second new e-reader has a smaller 5-inch (not touchscreen) screen. Dubbed the Reader Pocket Edition, the portable e-reader will cost $199.Each device will store around 350 e-books on its 512MB of flash memory, compared to Kindle’s 2GB of flash memory. However, both the Sony e-readers have a battery life of two weeks compared to 4 days for Kindle. The e-readers support Sony’s BBeB format, the ePub standard, Microsoft Word documents and reportedly, Adobe’s PDF. They can also be used to read e-books from a variety of Web sites, including 500,000 free public domain titles from Google, Sony said.

The two new Sony e-readers can both store up to 350 e-books and run for two weeks on a battery charge, the company said in a statement.

PS3 Slim Ready to ship in July

According to the Taiwanese website UDN, the upcoming rumored PS3 Slim will be ready to shipped by the end of this month, july – 09.

According to them Foxconn and Pegatron are already working on the new model. If these information are true, then there is a chance for the price cut on the normal PS3 alongside with the launch of PS3 Slim. But there will not be much differences between the normal PS3 n the Slim one. However the PS3 Slim will have much thinner body for sure. :D
