Try the new Google Search Page

The rumors about Google’s redesign are true, and you can try it for yourself with a very simple method.

1. Go to Google.com.
2. Once it loads, enter this code into your web browser’s URL address field:

javascript:void(document.cookie="PREF=ID=20b6e4c2f44943bb:U=4bf292d46faad806:TM=1249677602:LM=1257919388:S=odm0Ys-53ZueXfZG;path=/; domain=.google.com");

There shouldn’t be any http://google.com in front of that. Just that code.

3. Hit enter.
4. Reload or open a new Google.com page and you will have access to the new user interface.

Aparently I had this a few weeks back. I didn’t know it was anything special. Was that way for a couple days then went back to normal.

I’m in Canada and it doesn’t work for me, Google.com always redirects to Google.ca. Any Canadians had any luck?

Is it possible for this to be made into a Greasemonkey script? If you know how, please do it. Too bad this interface is limited to Google Web (i.e., not Google Images, Videos, etc.)

@Camron: It’s actually working for Google Web, News, Videos, and probably a few others I don’t care to check. You’re correct that an image search will still take you to the old version, though. Same with Maps, for understandable reasons.

@Camron: Images and Videos are available as a left-tab in the new interface after you perform a search. [Although you're right, the image search tab is just the old image interface. Meh.]

you need to sign out of your google account before doing this for it to work properly

@Weihovah: You do know that the code itself doesn’t prevent transmission of STD’s, right? You still need to make sure you’re making an informed and safe decision about the peripherals you plug your dongle into.

So setting a cookie is woo javascript magic even to the gizmodo editors (and looking at the comments, half the gizers?-)

Edit: Looking a little closer, I see that TM and LM are timestamps, and S is likely a session variable.. ID relates to your google login perhaps.. Any takers on the others?

I did a search for “boobies”, and it came up with some interesting things in the “blogs” and “maps” tabs.

Neat new interface. The tabs make it much more convenient than different URLs entirely.

Ah, yes, very nice. Best new feature? Options to narrow the time frame down are no longer hidden under an extra “options” panel.

Header aside, it is kinda bing-ish…just a tad. Also: angles making a comeback?

Should probably mention that this seems to only work on google.com, not (for example) google.co.uk, even with changing the code with the corresponding country ending.

www.google.com/ncr will force you to use the US version, where you can use the code and see it.
