UK Twitter users Get Status Updates via MMS

November 17th, 2009 oDx Leave a comment Go to comments

Twitter is becoming popular day by day, and so its users need more and more features.

First, Twitter came with SMS support, a service by which users can update their status just by sending one sms to a particular number. Since the carrier fees are high, now this feature is only availabe to very few countries.

Any now UK users are getting this MMS support even without any additional charges. That is, sending MMS for updating your status and  sending an MMS to your friend costs exactly the same.

This is posted on Twitter blog by Thau.

The post says,

Today, not only has Orange UK turned on Twitter SMS, but it has added a first-of-its-kind special enhancement. Orange UK users can also send picture messages (MMS) to 86444 in addition to text messages because of a site that Orange UK has created called Snapshot. The best part is that it is incredibly simple to use:

  • Take a photo on your Orange mobile phone
  • Select ‘Send via MMS’ or ‘Send multimedia message’
  • Send it to 86444

Techcrunch says,

“The reason this works is because Orange UK runs a photo site called Snapshot, which will host the pictures and tweet out a link to them automatically.”
